Small classes Every child is seen

Teachers can notice gaps early, stretch confidence, and build real relationships.

Whole child Beyond academics

Faith, wellbeing, creativity, movement, and character are part of everyday learning.

Family partnership Clear communication

Parents stay close to the rhythm of school life through updates, visits, and shared milestones.

What stands out

Built for a stronger first school experience.

KFS is not trying to be the biggest school in town. It is designed to be personal, warm, and steady for families who want a more intentional foundation phase.

About our school

Rooted in Port Alfred, shaped around children.

Founded in 2014 by Bridget McNelis, Kowie Foundation School was built to give local families a small, caring alternative for the early years of schooling. The result is a school that feels personal on purpose.

What school life feels like

Known by name

Teachers can pay attention to each child’s progress, confidence, and personality.

Warm and ordered

Calm routines help children settle quickly and feel safe enough to grow.

Hands-on learning

Projects, movement, and creative tasks keep curiosity alive throughout the week.

Parents included

Communication stays simple, direct, and focused on what helps each child thrive.

Learning

Strong foundations, taught with care.

Literacy, numeracy, life skills, and classroom confidence are taught through close support and clear expectations. Children are encouraged to ask, try, practise, and grow.

  • CAPS-aligned foundation phase teaching.
  • Knowledge Network technology and early digital confidence.
  • Supportive intervention and stretch where needed.
Beyond the classroom

Sport, arts, movement, and shared moments.

Swimming, hockey, athletics, music, drumming, and outdoor learning all help children develop confidence, coordination, expression, and teamwork.

  • Creative arts that build voice and joy.
  • Sport and movement woven into a balanced week.
  • Outings and experiences that connect children to their community.
Our approach
We want children to feel secure enough to learn, encouraged enough to try, and known enough to grow.
